Special Education Services

Special education and inclusionary programs and services are available at VCLC, at community child-care and preschool sites and/or at home. Licensed professionals provide evaluations, early intervention, special education services and therapies at no cost to families. A full range of support services are offered to families.

• Evaluation Center   VCLC provides multi-disciplinary evaluations, at no cost to families, in English or Spanish, for children birth to seven years of age with a suspected delay or disability. Serving children and families, residing in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and Queens.
• Early Intervention (EI)   Early Intervention (EI) is a program for children under three years of age who have or are suspected of having a developmental delay and/or disability, and their families.
• Preschool Special Education   All preschool special education programs are approved and regulated by the New York State Education Department. The Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) is responsible for special education placement decisions and Individual Education Plans (IEP) based on individual evaluations. Serving children and families, who reside in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and Queens.
• Special Class in an Integrated Setting (SCIS)   Special Class in an Integrated Setting (SCIS) is a specialized pre-school class, for children age 4, with and without disabilities. Serving children and families, who reside in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and Queens.
• Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT)   Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) services allow children to receive support from a special education teacher in a natural setting, such as a nursery school, summer camp or the child's home. Serving children and families, who reside in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and Queens.
• Kindergarten / First Grade Special Education Classes   Kindergarten/first grade special education classes at Variety Child Learning Center meet for 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, including a 6 week summer session. For children who reside in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and Queens.
• Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy   Speech, Occupational and Physical Therapies are available on site at VCLC, community childcare sites, and at home. Serving children and families, who reside in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and Queens.
• Related Services   Our Related Services Program provides services to children ages 3-5 who are classified by their school district’s CPSE (Committee on Preschool Education) as a preschool student with a disability and included in programs with their typically developing peers. Serving children and families, who reside in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and Queens.
• Autism   Programs, evaluations and other services, including Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), are available for children with autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD), and their families. Serving children and families, who reside in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and Queens.
