What's New at VCLC

VCLC presents this wonderful enrichment program for children ages 3-5 years, off-site, at the Christ Church, 61 East Main Street, Oyster Bay, NY, 11771. "Little Stars" is a VCLC program, supervised by VCLC SEIT supervisor, Jeanne Ginsberg, MA, LMHC.

The program fosters curiosity, exploration, self esteem and skill development. Groups are led by warm, experienced, masters-level teachers and supported by assistant teachers. All learning is presented in a fun and playful manner. Families may sign up for one, two, or all three classes. Parents may also register their child for the half-hour story time prior to their enrichment class. The children are welcome to bring lunch, snack and/or beverage from home, to enjoy during storytime.

Children must be toilet trained and able to participate in a group without individual adult support in order to benefit.

SCIENCE and NATURE: The children explore the wonders of nature, participate in hands-on experiments, and have a playtime with toys and activities with science and nature themes. Your child brings home the weekly experiment, to share what they have learned.

FUN WITH READINESS SKILLS: A play-oriented review of pre-k academic skills to help with kindergarten readiness including; alphabet, numbers, calendar, shapes, colors, writing, and more. Creative play and interactive social skills with peers is a significant part of the class.

FROM LITERACY TO THEATRE: With the guidance of the teacher, children read and explore selected stories, bring ing the characters to life with movement and creative art projects. Using simple props and costumes, the children will perform a play for family members in the final class, November 19.

STORYTIME at LUNCH TIME: The children enjoy an extended day, listening to a story while having their lunch or snack with a teacher and friends before their enrichment class. Children bring their own lunch and beverage.

COST: $50 for 8 classes

ABOUT THE TEACHERS:

Laura Marino has been teaching nursery school and kindergarten for 21 years. She is a Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT), with a Masters degreen in special education. A mother of two, Laura's warmth, sense of humor and philosophy of seeing each child as an individual with unique gifts and needs, makes her an extraordinary teacher.

Nina Renner has been teaching young children for over 20 years. She holds a BS in Special Education, a BS in N-6 Grade, and an MS in Deaf and Hearing Impaired. Nina's enthousiasm for learning and ability to communicate skills to children in a way that is understandable and fun make her the excellent teacher that she is.

Directions to Christ Church: L.I.E. to Exit 41N, or Northern State Parkway to Exit 35N. Route 106/107 North until they split. Stay right @ split, follow Route 106 north into Oyster Bay. Turn right onto East Main Street. Christ Church is 1/4 mile down on the left side.
