SED Mandated Training in the Needs of Children with Autism

Fee: $65.00

Effective January 29, 2010, Variety Child Learning Center (VCLC) was approved by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to be a provider of training in the needs of children with autism. This mandated training in the needs of Children with Autism is a specific requirement for new special education teachers and administrators, and includes those seeking certification students with disabilities.

VCLC's 6th Annual Summer Autism Institute

Date: July 27, 28, 29
Time:1:15- 4:15
Location: VCLC, 47 Humphrey Drive, Syosset, NY 11791
Fee: $50 per seminar (Group rate discounts are available)
Special Discount: $175 for all four seminars (Must register by 6/20/10)

A four part interactive training series created for teachers, teacher assistants, paraprofessionals, therapists, parents/caregivers and anyone with an interest in autism. Seminars are interactive and include hands-on/role play activities. Certificates of attendance will be provided upon completion of seminar.

Seminar I: Understating Autism & Applied Behavior Analysis.
This seminar includes examination of the ADOS An overview of autism and applied behavior analysis. Included in discussion are how a diagnosis is made and what tools are used.

Seminars II and III: Effective Behavior Based Teaching Strategies & Data Collection Procedures (levels I & 2) These seminars will examine effective behavior based teaching strategies and data collection procedures.

Seminar IV: Functional Behavior Assessment & Behavior Intervention Planning
This seminar focuses on Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and the creation of a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP). This topic is addressed in terms of best practice and the law. Participants will learn how to conduct behavioral observations, collect data and put the pieces together to develop a behavior plan using positive behavior supports.

ABA BOOT CAMP

ABA BOOT CAMP LEVEL I
Dates: August 2, 3, 4, 2010
Time: 4:30 - 7:30 PM
Location: VCLC, 47 Humphrey Drive, Syosset, NY 11791
Fee: $100

This three part interactive series is designed to teach the basic principles of ABA. Created for teachers and paraprofessionals working with young children with autism spectrum disorders, the series sessions will focus on the fundamental components of an ABA program, including; discrete trial teaching, use of incidental and natural environment instruction, principles of reinforcement, functional behavior assessment and data collection procedures.

ABA BOOT CAMP LEVEL II
Dates: August 9 & 10, 2010
Time: 4:30 - 7:30 PM
Location: VCLC, 47 Humphrey Drive, Syosset, NY 11791
Fee: $75

This two-part interactive series created for teachers, teacher assistants and paraprofessionals working with young children with autism spectrum disorders builds upon the concepts addressed in ABA Boot Camp Level I. Concepts examined in this series include; measurement methods, interpreting data, prompting, shaping, and chaining techniques, visual supports, verbal behavior, basic curriculum development and principles of reinforcement.
